About Us
The Office of the Ombudsman + Information Commission is established for the purpose of protecting and enforcing the rights of citizens employed in the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis. It gives assistance to persons who believe that they have suffered injustices by Public Officials as a result of maladministration.
What We Do
The responsibilities of the Ombudsman include:
- To investigate any administrative actions of authority for the purpose of deciding whether there is evidence of maladministration on the part of the authority
- To make recommendations pursuant to an investigation, to the authority concerning any administrative action that formed the subject of the investigation and, generally about ways of improving the administrative practices and procedures
- Perform other such functions as may be conferred upon him under the Act
Mission Statement
To Revise, Simplify and Modernize the Law to make it effective for use.
Law Revision
Maintain and update the Revised Edition of the laws of St. Kitts and Nevis to reflect current legal standards and enactments.
Law Reform
Research and propose changes to existing laws or introduce new legislation to address emerging societal needs and values.
Legal Publications & Access
Provide electronic and physical access to updated laws through an online database, CD-ROMs, and printed volumes.
Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with legal professionals, government bodies, and the public to gather feedback and promote improvements in the legal system.
